    Photos of the week: 4/4-10

  • This week, we check in briefly with each of the five Shen Yun groups touring around the world. We start with Shen Yun International Company and dancer Hannah Rao at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California. (Photo by projectionist Annie Li)
  • Up the West Coast from there, Shen Yun North America Company performed in Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington. En route, the company stopped by the bustling Pike Place Market. Dancer Leo Yin takes in the sites and sounds of Seattle’s Elliott Bay waterfront. (Photo by dancer Daren Chou)
  • It takes one and a half men, as demonstrated by dancers Kelvin Diao (top) and Tony Xue (bottom), to match heights with the world’s tallest man who stood 8’11” (2.72 meters). His shoes are on display at the Pike Place Market. (Photo by Daren Chou)
  • Back in the hotel, violinist Meng-Hsuan Chung takes a break from practicing. (Photo by Darrell Wang)
  • In Europe, meanwhile, Shen Yun World Company traveled from Germany to Switzerland to Austria. And back. And back. This travel allowed for a stop over at the astounding force of nature the Rhein Falls. (Photo by dancer Stephanie Guo)
  • You need to be there to hear the sound of hundreds of cubic meters per second exploding downstream, recalling Edgar Allan Poe’s “A Descent Into the Maelstrom.” (Photo by dancer Jeff Chuang)
  • The majesty of these waterfalls is almost hypnotizing. (Photo by MC Leeshai Lemish)

  • And then there were the more peaceful waters of the Geneva Rhone River, upon which Shen Yun performed at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices. (Photo by Jeff Chuang)

  • And the soothing notes of a little ad hoc chamber music quartet. At the Bregenz Festspielhaus, (from left) Concertmaster Astrid Martig, first violinist Li Fan, viola player Paulina Chau, and cellist Jacob Fowler enjoy each other’s company and music. (Photo by oboist Leen De Blauwe)

  • From Austria to Australia, where Shen Yun New York Company is in the midst of a six-city tour. This is a view in the capital, Canberra. (Photo by dancer Felix Sun)
  • And finally, Shen Yun Touring Company flew from Medellín to Bogotá D.C., Colombia and watched the sunrise on the plane as they continued their South America tour. And so it is, with one month of tour left, that Shen Yun’s five companies are spread across four continents. (Photo by dancer Helen Li)
  • Join us for a look behind the artists’ lens. These photos were taken this past week by Shen Yun performers while on the road during the 2017 tour.
