Jing Xian

Composer

Jing Xian became a professional pipa player in China at the young age of 15. She showed early talent for composition, winning several competitions in China for her original works. After studying composition and graduating from a conservatory in China, she was awarded a scholarship to Oxford University, where she completed her Master of Studies, MPhil in Music, pursued a DPhil in ethnomusicology, and was honored as a Moberly Graduate Scholar. Over 800 of her works have appeared in album recordings, and she contributed compositions to dance dramas, television, and film. Since joining Shen Yun at its inception, she has composed and arranged numerous pieces for its annual dance productions. She is concurrently an associate professor of music at Fei Tian College in New York.
